Vancouver's Community Information
Vanier Park
On English Bay south of False Creek and below the Burrard
Bridge, this park is home to a fine beach, a stand of lovely old maple
trees and a number of museums. The Vancouver Museum specializes in the
history of Vancouver and southwestern BC. On display are historic photos
and artifacts, including an exhibit on the Salish Indians. In the same
complex is a planetarium with regularly changing, entertaining and educational
shows. A five-minute walk away, the Vancouver Maritime Museum has lots
of wooden models, some old rowing boats and good displays on the city's
rich maritime heritage. It offers tours aboard the St Roch, a 1928 Royal
Canadian Mounted Police Arctic patrol sailing ship. Also in Vanier Park
are a swimming pool, tennis courts and other sporting grounds. The park
is a popular spot, and when the weather's fine, you'll see loads of
physically active people taking advantage of the sun.
